One of the joys of being a wedding photographer: Connecting with old friends

Friday, August 19th, 2011

This post is dedicated to the friends I have re-connected with due to my job as a wedding photographer.  It is amazing, how after months, maybe years of not seeing or talking to somebody, they pick up the phone and give you a call inquiring to be their wedding photographer.  A friend, who I hadn’t seen in probably 6 years, contacted me, and now, we are discussing their wedding.  Same with another, except longer, maybe 10 years!

The beauty of this is that I have the opportunity to reconnect with these people, and become friends on a different level, at a point in both our lives when so much is happening.

The beauty of this business is in the small things.

Location Shoot: H. Sattler Plastics

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Ever wonder what happens to all that hard plastic that gets recycled?  Well yesterday I had the pleasure to find out during a shoot for H. Sattler Plastics on Chicago’s Southwest side.  Sattler recycles plastics by grinding them in to tiny bits and pieces, and then distributing all over the world.  Those little pieces get melted in to new plastic items.  The people at this company are fantastic, and it shows how a family business can grow and grow throughout the years, (they now have locations in Germany and Malaysia.)

9,000 Views in a Matter of Days

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Well, that took  off fast!  Apparently people are quite interested in videos of Transformers 3.  Over 9,000 people have viewed the video, and it just shows how things can take off quite quickly on youtube.  The power of the internet. Awesome.

On another note, REFR:Castaways is tonight on North Avenue Beach from 7-11.  Myself and ActionBooth will be shooting the photos, while the drinks and fun are a plenty.  Live music from Sam Sinclair Trio and Team Bayside High (who will be playing at Lollapalooza this year) will be providing the aural stimulation!

Outside My Window: Transformers 3 Filming

Transformers 3 Corvette Stingray Prototype. I want one.

For the next week, Michael Bay’s Transformers:3 will be filming right outside my condo’s door here on Van Buren. There are fast cars, lights, cameras, and some cool stunts. Here is what I shot real quick today.

So That’s What all the Racket Is!

Wow!!  I was wondering what all the noise was these past few weeks here in the loop.  The Transformers 3 filming is in full swing here in Chicago, and Michael Bay sure does know how to make some noise!

A Vehicular Debate: Which one?

So the time has come when my trusty 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee must go.  I have had it for 5 years, and I need a change of scenery.  I want an SUV, with the bells and whistles like xenon lamps, navigation, and backup sensors, but don’t want anything too out there as far as price goes.  Any recommendations?  Being as eco-friendly also is of high importance.  So far, I’ve seen the Infiniti EX35, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Land Rover LR2.

I’m Stuck.  I cannot for the life of me figure out which one I want, or, if I am missing any other good choices.  Any suggestions?  Leave me some in the comments section!

Oh and if you were wondering, that beautiful hunk of pearl white Grand Cherokee goodness is for sale :)

Summer in the City.

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Well, its half way through the summer and I have officially visited Castaways on North Avenue Beach for the first time. I am here scouting a location for a Collin Pierson Photography and ActionBooth REFR event to be held here next month.
This Castaways place gives me some great ideas for shoots. Very inspirational. I think I will have to investigate using the place for one!

Something I Don’t Know If I Would Ever Shoot?

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

I’m on the fence.  I see a video like this, of a massive bear at a photo shoot, and I just don’t know.  What is the threshold for what we should and should not take on?

New Pierson Puppies

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

The Pierson family has added two new members recently, Abbie and Bella.  Abbie is a Brittany and Bella is a Gordon Setter. They are very energetic (as all puppies are,) and incredibly sweet. I shot a few photos of them recently:

The Way We Shoot Photos to Change in the Future?

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

I saw this on Engadget.com the other day.. incredible concept here.  It is a video camera that takes stills, has a macro to 500mm lens (thats a huge focal length, fyi) and looks similar to the front of a hair dryer?  Crazy stuff.
